Lackluster Lions Lose out after missing a host of chances against Denton Youth

Lions go into this game not in the best of shape in all honesty, It should have been much different given the marvelous week against Brendan Bees however a bad week in training meant that Chris and Andy were down to the bare bones after being forced to drop players to the bench for fighting.

Freddie starts in goal, Theo H is called into defense to play alongside Miller, Ronny plays on the right as usual, Keaton sitting out on the left, Layton and Alex sit alongside each other upfront.

Lions kick us off and have a really fast start, Keaton stretches the pitch and darts down the outside, feeds a lovely ball into Alex who manages to get on the end of it, Alex one on one, takes his shot on with that trusted left foot of his, but the keeper comes out to gather it up, a little more power and that would have been 1-0 to Lions.

Denton come back down the other end, Theo and Miller left alone at the back, Denton with a man over here as they go 3 v 2, Miller slides in but the Denton player skips around him, Theo has a go but he is unsuccessful on this occasion, 1 v 1 against Freddie, Freddie comes out and slides in, its a great block by Freddie and the ball is beaten away by Theo. still 0-0.

Keaton again becomes the architect of some great play by lions, switches the ball to Ronny on the opposite side, Ronny turns his man inside, a great ball into Alex, Alex runs forward and turns the ball around the corner to Layton W, its 1 v 1 again and Layton's miss hit shot just flashes wide of the post.

Keaton continuing to be a thorn in the side picks up the ball again, rushes forward to take a shot on himself this time, but again Lions just cant get the ball in the back of the net. still 0-0. Chances kept on coming for Lions in the first half but more or less wide of the target.

Lions stroll in at half time knowing damn well they should be leading by at least 3-0 here, but not proving to be clinical enough in the final third.

Its the second half and Lions continue the same way they started the game and that is waves of attacks after attacks. Lions get the ball right into the danger zone the ball bounces up and strikes a Denton Youths hand, surely a penalty... the referee shakes his head and waves the penalty away. Andy is furious with that one.

Miller is replaced by Alfie, hes had a very professional game has Miller, not put a foot wrong all day, the score still tied 0-0.

Denton now pushing as they smell blood in this game, its a corner ball, thumped in, the Lions defense at 6s and 7s but manage to clear the ball, not far enough though as it drops to a Denton player who lashes towards goal, but beaten behind for a corner by Freddie.

Again the ball thumped in and falling to Alfie who half clears, The ball dropping again to a Denton player who looks for the cheeky lob as he sees Freddie off his line, yep that's the one...its 0-1 to Denton Youth with an exquisite lob leaving Freddie no chance. Lions must keep their composure if they want to get back into this one.

Lions all chase forward looking for an equalizer Keaton with an attempt which is smothered by the Denton goalkeeper. Big kick up field which finds a Denton striker, Lions too far up the pitch here as they are left chasing back, its 1 v 2 in Denton's favor, Alfie the only one back, Denton's forward decides to be unselfish and put one on a plate for his mate, who converts into the goal its 2-0.

Very much game over here now, Lions lose 0-2 in a game which they know they should have won, Lions far from their best today but showed enough in the game to show they were better than Denton, but just couldn't hit the back of the net.

Miller claims Man of the Match after a solid performance, A great performance also from Alex and Keaton but Lions just not at the races today.

We move onto next week and hope that they overcome it against vs Droylsden Predators.
