A game of 2 halves as Lions are defeated

After all the preparation work in pre-season, Lions where ready to start their official opening league game against Brendan Bees Stingers.

Lions start with new summer signing Freddie in goal, a back two of Alex and Miller, Theo H sits just in front sporting the captains armband today, Alfie of course comes out of goal to take his new position over on the right hand side, Top goalscorer from last season Keaton takes his place over on the left, Layton W sits in his more familiar role in attack. However there is no space for Leighton S, new signings Theo E and Ronny take their place on the bench.

Lions hoping to make a fast start following a great run last season are pegged back almost immediately, a mix up in defence and an easy pass to a Brendan bees striker gives them a gift of a goal leaving lions trailing 1-0.

Lions still looking half asleep here as they concede another goal after failing to clear a simple ball, for it to be hammered home from close range. Lions now losing 2-0 and sitting far too deep and failing to clear their lines on 2 occasions leaving them with an absolute mountain to climb. Lions begin to wake up, Keaton as active as ever attempts to grab his team by the scruff of the neck to pull them back into the game has numerous chances in the first half but unfortunate for them not to hit the back of the net. Lions still pushing forward are looking very vulnerable at the back, Freddie comes to the rescue on a couple of occasions charging out of his goal like a man possessed clears the danger, However Lions do concede one more before half time making it 3-0 and leaving themselves with a near impossible job.

Coach Andy makes the executive decision to bin off the defensive midfielder and push a further player upfront to give Lions a half chance of clawing their way back into the game. A few changes at the break and a screaming half time team talk, that similar to Mike Bassett, a change in shape as Freddie continues the second half in goal, Miller is replaced by new recruit Theo E, Alex sits alongside him to form the backline, Rocket Ronny makes his entrance on his debut hoping to impress goes out to the left wing, Leighton S the terrier is also called into action on the right and Keaton and cousin Alfie form a partnership upfront.

Lions start great, the introduction of Ronny gives the boys an extra bit of flair on the ball, Keaton and Alfie have chances to get the team back in it but again are unfortunate. Alfie looking much more like himself now darts down the right hand side like Usain Bolt chasing another gold medal. Delivers the ball into Keaton who beats his man with ease and delivers the ball back to Alfie who then hammers it hard and low into the goalkeepers right and side. Lions with a lifeline now as they continue to chase the game 3-1. Another chance falls Lions way, this time from a corner, Ronny the rocket stands over it, a great ball into the danger zone but nobody on the end of it. Bees breathe a breath of fresh air, that could have been so close to a second.

Keaton again continuing to be a thorn in the side but denied again through excellent goalkeeping and slightly miscued shots.

As Lions continue to push and bees playing deep in their own half manage to break out with a rare chance for them in this second half, again the simplest of defending is not dealt with and Lions are pegged back once more 4-1 now.

Lions however continued with their onslaught and wanted to try to prove that the goal conceded hadn't affected them, re introduce Theo H to the game who plays a nice ball in to Keaton, who again dances through the bees defence with ease to hammer into the top corner, its game on again and an absolute well deserved goal for the young Paul Scholes lookalike. 4-2 now.

Again Lions continue to press Alfie gets the ball again, driving down the right, nice combination of passing with Keaton, Keaton dances his way through the bees box again beating player after player, look for his second! but oh no! if only he had squared that ball to Layton W who could have had an easy tap in. never mind :) it was evident that through Lions dominance in this second half and continuing to push they were naturally likely to be caught out again, and just before the end they are punished on the counter attack 5-2 final score as the whistle blows.

A slow start for Lions who really couldn't get out of first gear where punished and losing 3-0 at the half way point, however managed to get in with a shout in the second half having many chances but are unfortunate on the day. however much to work with and not as bad as the score line indicates 2-2 in the second half and a much better performance all round. Lets see if they can overcome this next week against Juno. Final score 5-2 loss but a terrific game from Keaton today who on another day could have had 4 or 5, Man of the Match performance.

FINAL SCORE HEY WITH LIONS 2 - 5 BRENDAN BEES STINGERS
