Alex stars as Lions prove too much for Signol Athletic
After last weeks referee antics, Lions where hoping to get their season back on track against a team they had beaten before "Signol Athletic" it wasn't going to be an easy game, this league has already proved it's fair share of shock results, however Lions felt confident going into this one.
Andy and Chris start with a very strong line up but with some alterations from their usual line up. Freddie starts in goal, Alfie and Theo H line up alongside eachother in what looks like a very strong defense, Alex sits over on the left wing, whilst Ronny plays the opposite side, Keaton starts upfront with Leighton the terrier just out in front. Miller, Theo E start on the bench with Layton W running late with car troubles.
We kick off with Lions wearing orange and black, playing from right to left, Signol get us underway.
Not much between the sides in the opening 5 minutes as the ball is pinged around in midfield, not threatening either keeper or defense.
The first action of the game comes in the form of Keaton who breaks clear of the Signol defense, one on one with the goalkeeper and keeping cool as a cucumber slotting coolly into the bottom right hand corner for 1-0. Lions growing in confidence as they test the Signol Goalkeeper another couple of times only to be denied by some great goalkeeping.
Signol with a chance to equalize now from a corner kick, It's played in and bounces around the box like a pinball machine, it falls to a Signol striker who hammers the ball goal wards, Freddie to the rescue as he keeps that out with his face! ouch but what a save, the ball bounces clear and he pounces on it, gathers it up safely in his hands.
Half time whistle blows and Lions lead this marginally 1-0.
Some changes at the break as Miller comes into defense, Alfie is deployed upfront as Lions search for that second goal, Theo E is also thrown into the mix. Whilst the late arrival of Layton W also provides a boost, he is thrown upfront alongside Alfie.
We kick off the second half with Lions looking hungry for more as they smother the Signol defense and pepper the goalkeeper with a flurry of shots. Layton W, Theo E and Alfie all going close.
Finally the second goal does come, Ronny darts down the left side, He runs past player after player as he cuts the ball in to Alfie, Alfie passes out to Layton W, It's the dropped back for Alfie who is outside the box, Alfie runs onto it, powers the shot with venom and yes! 2-0 brilliant goal into the bottom left hand corner.
Lions ring the changes again as Leighton S comes back on, Keaton is played in an unusual position of defense, Alex also joins in on the act as he is back over on the left side and here we go again, Lions smell blood and look hungry for more!
It really is wave after wave of attacks now for Hey with Lions as they look in desperate search for more, they don't have to wait long either, another lovely bit of passing combination as Alfie, Leighton S, Alex and Theo H all involved... It starts with Keaton at the back, he passes out to Theo H who is sat on half way, turns and skills his man on with ease, nice ball to Alfie who has a strike.... no thank you says the goalkeeper, its parried away, Leighton S with a cute back heel passes back to Alfie, who tees up Alex on the half volley, Alex runs onto it and loops it over the keepers head, that was really impressive you have to say, the ball nestles into the back of the net and we have a big lead at 3-0 Lions running riot!!
Andy and Chris ring the changes again as Theo E and Miller are given a go upfront as they search for a goal themselves, looking ever so eager to get in on the act, Theo E has a big chance but it is gathered up by the goalkeeper. Miller also goes close but on his wrong foot, desperately seeking a goal that he deserves after his tireless hard work!
The full time whistle blows and the smiles beam across the Lions faces as they take away a big, big win here. 3-0 is impressive but again it really should have been more, Andy and Chris experimented a lot, Theo H, Keaton and Alfie were even all relieved of some playing duties today as they took a space on the bench for 10, but what a win and Lions are back, tune in next week as Lions take on Reddish, will it be revenge as they look to redeem themselves after losing 10-0 last time out.
